THE POST-STAR,
Editor:
When tobacco companies fund or sponsor organizations and community events, it makes it seem as though they are good corporate citizens, giving back to the community. But the money they give away is the result of selling products that kill.
Recently, I attended the American Red Cross Celtic Festival at the Glens Falls Civic Center. I was thrilled to see that "Reality Check" had helped sponsor the event. The American Red Cross has also joined the statewide "No Thanks, Big Tobacco Campaign" by signing a commitment to not accept funding or sponsorship from tobacco companies. In fact, many local businesses and organizations from our area, such as Adirondack Balloon Festival and the Adirondack Stampede Charity Rodeo, have also signed a commitment to not accept funding from tobacco companies. More organizations and businesses should do the same.
